Cities of the Silk Roads
Being given a copy of Peter Frankopan's 'The Silk Roads' sparked my interest in the subject and in particular the wonderful geometric art associated with the architecture of these historic cities. Later when when our group held their exhibition entitled ' Voyages ' at Fisherton Mill, Salisbury I used this as my theme. Basing collages on some of the visual imagery available on line my specific focus was to interpret several of the complex tiling patterns in needlepoint

Bukhara
Situated on the Silk Road, the city has been a hub for trade, learning, culture, and religion. Under the Samanids, Bukhara was a leading intellectual center with many libraries.

Samarkand
Samarkand, known as the Jewel of the Silk Road, is a historic Central Asian city with over 2,700 years of culture. It's famous for its monuments, vibrant markets, and energetic atmosphere.

Khiva
Khiva’s most famous landmark is the Kalta Minor Minaret. Originally planned to be 70 meters tall construction was halted on the death of the then Khan only reaching 26 metres
