Spin - and the joy of  'found items '

The UNIVERSE is in a state of spin, the EARTH spins, WHEELS spin. The base for these pieces are  ‘found’ hub-caps which have decided to take a 'SPIN 'on their own in search of a new life in the hedges and verges of Hampshire and the New Forest

The dynamic between colour and motion have long been explored in the spin paintings of Damien Hirst and others. This idea was to find ways of expressing motion through colour using a combination of hand painted and colourful Sari silks and threads – which after all, have been derived from spinning

Using stitched hand painted silks - both natural and man-made as well as recycled saris - I love the way these fabrics reflect light and absorb colour in a unique way to provide engaging pattern and colour combinations.

Lost and Found

Found Items (French objet trouvé ) have long had a place in established art with famous innovators
including Picasso and Duchamp. On a more basic level there is something innate about loving the
unloved – especially when their discarded forms speak strongly of another life.

The inspiring Discards  I have used to make items include a shower tray, several lost car hub caps
and un-binned containers - all interesting forms in their own right
